Thank You!

A huge thank you to all our wonderful parents, staff, children, gardeners for making forest school so much fun this year. A big thank you to Friends of Abbey for funding new waterproof gear, flower seeds, bulbs, and fruit trees—your generosity has made a huge difference! Nearly every child in the school has planted something across both sites this year, helping us improve our species diversity and create two mini orchards: apples and cherries on the junior site, and pears and plums on the infant site.

This week, Mrs K, the team, and some fantastic volunteers from Years 5 and 6 will be cleaning, checking, and packing away Forest School for the summer break.

This year, we’ve welcomed badgers, a hedgehog, fox kits, squirrels, and more birds than ever. Our wildflowers are blooming, and we hope to plant even more bulbs and hedging in the autumn. Please share your feedback and ideas in the comments—Forest School is shaped by you and your children!

We’re always grateful for donations to keep Forest School creative and fun. If you have any of the following, please hand them to reception teachers or leave them at the office. Currently these things would be useful:

White cotton sheets, pillowcases, or plain light-coloured materials
Old socks (odd ones are great)
Natural materials :Pine cones, conkers, acorns, alder cones (our forest doesn't have these trees yet)Large logs, branches, soil,
Old bakeware (silicon cases, muffin trays, loaf tins), kitchenware (jugs, bowls, whisks, measuring cups, mortar and pestles – no glass!), teacups, scoops, tongs, ladles, spoons etc
Bird feeders, sunflower seeds, niger seeds (no nuts)
Outgrown waterproofs and wellies/boots, warm hats, warm gloves etc
Planks, nails, screws (we are looking for planks to make some bird boxes for next spring and possible a hedgehog hibernation house)
Big shopping bags (like the ones in Tesco and B and M), storage baskets/boxes (that will survive rain, snow and life outdoors)
Tent pegs, mallets, unused camping supplies might be useful too
Woodland Animal Toys
