Nursery Forest School: A Thriving Outdoor Adventure

Our Nursery forest school sessions have been a resounding success so far, with two out of three mornings completed and the children thoroughly enjoying their time outdoors. The sessions have been packed with opportunities for the children to explore, experiment, and engage with nature in meaningful ways.
From the start, the children have embraced the sensory experiences and physical challenges offered by the forest school environment. There’s a wide range of activities to choose from, and each child finds something that sparks their curiosity. Making potions—both fragrant herbal concoctions and fizzing experiments—has been a particular hit, along with practising pouring skills and using droppers, which help develop fine motor control.
The mud kitchen is always abuzz with creativity, as children invent recipes for the café and make trips to the “shop” to collect supplies. Water play has also been popular, with children helping ducks, catching fish, making bubbles, and experimenting with guttering. Others have found joy in the tent, searching for minibeasts, or playing in the sand with dinosaurs and water.
Throughout these activities, there have been wonderful conversations and many examples of cooperation amongst the children. Their enthusiasm and teamwork have made these sessions truly memorable. We look forward to our final session on Wednesday, 9th July, and can’t wait to see what new discoveries await! This approach reflects our commitment to natural art, imaginative play, and water exploration—core elements of forest school learning
