Enhancing Lunchtime Experiences: Insights from Our School Council

Recently, our school council convened to discuss an important aspect of our school life: lunchtime provision. Representatives from all classes shared valuable feedback from their peers, highlighting both the successes and areas for improvement in our lunchtime activities.

One of the standout points from the meeting was the overwhelming appreciation for the range of activities and equipment available during lunch. Pupils expressed their enjoyment of the diverse options, which cater to different interests and needs. Whether children prefer energetic games or a peaceful moment on the Octobus, there truly is something for everyone. This inclusive approach has fostered a positive atmosphere during lunchtime, allowing pupils to engage socially and physically.

However, the council members also voiced some constructive suggestions. Many pupils expressed a desire for upgraded equipment to enhance their play experience further. They believe that refreshing the current offerings would not only improve safety but also make lunchtime even more enjoyable. For example, they would like stilts again and new dodge balls.

Additionally, as the colder months approach, the representatives discussed the need for more indoor activities. They love that we currently have a designated space for indoor games or creative projects but maybe opening up another room with a different activity would provide an excellent alternative for those chilly days, ensuring that all pupils have the opportunity to stay active and engaged, regardless of the weather.

The school council is committed to bringing these ideas to the attention of school leaders, demonstrating the importance of pupil voice in shaping our school environment. By listening to our pupils, we can continue to enhance the lunchtime experience, ensuring it remains a time of joy, activity, and connection for all.

Together, we can create a vibrant and inclusive lunchtime atmosphere that meets the needs of every pupil!

School council have been tasked with coming up with one question per class to ask our principal lunch time supervisor, who will be joining our meeting next time.

In our recent School Council meeting, we discussed the important roles of the chair and minute taker. The chair leads our meetings, ensuring everyone has a chance to share their ideas and keeping us focused on our goals. Meanwhile, the minute taker records what we discuss, capturing our decisions and action points for future reference.

We also talked about the purpose of an agenda, which outlines the topics we will cover. Having a clear agenda helps us stay organised and makes our meetings more effective. Together, we’re making our council stronger and more productive!

Until we meet in the new year, we have been tasked with looking at lunchtime and what we offer as a school; what we are doing well and if there is anything we can do to improve it. We will share our feedback in the new year.

We met today to share our Christmas card designs and recalled the term democracy and how we would use this to vote for our favourite design. We laid them all out on the table and we each had three counters. We then had a choice to make; we could either put all of our counters on one design or we may distribute them across different designs to show which ones we preferred. We didn't have to vote for ourselves, but we could.

We had some fantastic entries with lots of thought and care gone into their outcomes, and there were a number of votes for different designs but we had one clear winner which was Fifi in 4V - well done! You can see her design below and I'm sure you'll agree, its brilliant!

Today we met together for the first time as this year's school council. We discussed the purpose of a school council and what we will be doing throughout the year. Our role is really important to share what other children in our class are thinking and to feed back to Dr Kentish and Mrs Yale. We might be tasked with certain questions to ask our class or we may share thoughts and opinions that have arisen.

We spoke about the word democracy, what it means and how we will use this to vote next week. We have been tasked with designing this year's school Christmas card, which will be sent out to staff, and we will receive one too! Let's get our creative caps on!
