Subject Specific Vocabulary - Autumn

Assist your child in using and understanding the vocabulary they will come across in our non-core subjects this term.  To view the lists and definitions, click on the link below.

(To be added)

This term our topic is:

Super Scots

Through this topic we will be linking our Science, History, Art & Design and Design and Technology.

We will start the term with a Scottish Day, where children will carry out a range of activities on a Scottish theme. They will take part in the Highland Games, look at the legend of The Loch Ness Monster, create a piece of art in the style of Steven Brown and round the day off with a Highland Jig.

Through Super Scots, the children will look at significant Scottish people in history, such as Mary Queen of Scots. Children will also create pieces of art in the style of Charles Rennie Mackintosh. We will also carry out activities to celebrate St Andrew's Day.

A visit to Weston super Mare will give the children the opportunity to compare the human and physical features of a seaside town with Bearwood.

Parents and carers are invited to a weaving workshop to work with their children to create their own Scottish-inspired piece of weaving.

Spellings

Spellings are attached at the bottom of the page  Arrow Pointing Down - Arrow Pointing Down Png, Transparent Png - kindpng

Spellings will be given out to the children for the whole half term. They will be tested on Fridays. We will be sending home the children's spelling tests so you can continue to work on any mistakes with your child. You will find the spellings attached to this page.

Children will be taught different spelling patterns and rules within Phonics and English lessons. It would be great if you could help your children with these spellings throughout the year.  You can download these words below in the High Frequency Words and Common Exception Words documents. These are the words the children are expected to read and spell correctly by the end of year 2. You will also find the end of Key Stage requirements in the National Curriculum.

Children will also be able to practice their spellings at home using Spelling Frame. They will have a login and password in their reading journal. There are lots of fun games to play, to make the task of learning these spellings a little more fun. Please help your child login and enjoy the games online.

Access Spelling Frame here

Homework

Children will receive E-learning for their homework. This will be on Education City and Purple Mash. The children can also use Times Table Rock Stars and Numbots at home too, along with Spelling Frame.

We expect the children to practise their times tables (2,5 and 10), learn their spellings and read every night.
