Forest School Update-Reception, Year 1 and Year 6.
It’s been a busy and exciting time in Forest School this term! Reception, Year 1, and even some of our Year 6 pupils have been out enjoying the great outdoors—whatever the weather may bring.
Every Reception class has now taken part in sessions, and RS are currently enjoying their weekly forest adventures. The cold, frosty mornings haven’t slowed them down one bit—they’ve been keeping warm by exploring, climbing, and creating. They’ve practised using the bow saw safely, made simple bird feeders, and worked brilliantly as a team. The slackline, basket swing, and mud kitchen continue to be firm favourites, and we’re looking forward to getting our den-building poles back in action soon.
Year 1 have also been exploring in all kinds of weather, from icy mornings to muddy afternoons! They’ve learned to weave willow wreaths, use charcoal, and tie double knots to make bird feeders. Lots of teamwork, laughter, and discovery have filled their sessions.
Back in November, the Year 6 children who weren’t away on residential enjoyed a full day in Forest School. They braved some very wet weather, learned the basics of fire lighting, and all cooked on an open fire. Across these sessions, we’ve cooked delicious treats including eggy bread, apple crumble, s’mores, and crumpets. The day also saw some fantastic den building with sticks and tarps, plenty of muddy fun in the mud kitchen, and lots of teamwork and problem‑solving.
A huge thank you to Mr Edwards for keeping our tent and equipment in great shape and to families for dressing children warmly.
We welcome donations of any outgrown waterproofs, wellies, hats, socks or gloves to help all our young explorers stay cosy for their next forest adventures! We are also always on the lookout for white cotton sheets (or tablecloths etc) for craft activities, and odd socks. We re-home baking and kitchen equipment for our mud kitchen (spoons, baking trays, silicon cupcake cases, wooden spoons, pans, plates, cups, tea pots, metal dishes etc. But nothing that is glass).
