We explored the whole Forest School area, learned about our boundary ropes and practised using the slack-line. Everyone enjoyed testing their waterproofs by sitting on the damp grass—excellent practical science!

The children particularly loved creating magical potions with natural materials, scissors, pestles and mortars. There was lots of careful mixing, wonderful smelling and imaginative conversation. We also investigated how water could make boats, ducks and fish move along the guttering.

Other favourite activities included exploring the large sandpit, feeding the birds, examining natural materials closely, and listening to the different sounds stones made as they travelled through tubes into water. We also helped to dig over our wildflower meadow. The session ended with a well-earned squash and biscuit in the tent.

There were some lovely conversations and lots of problem-solving, creativity and teamwork. The children took great care of the forest, one another and all our resources.

Donations welcome

We would be very grateful for donations of unused wellington boots, waterproofs, bulbs to plant, clean old white sheets, or mud-kitchen equipment such as spoons, bowls, jugs, pans and bakeware.

Next week

Next week, we will learn about our fire circle and begin learning how to use a bow saw safely.

Please send children in Forest School clothes (old, with lots of layers if it is cold), wellies and waterproofs if they have them. Please also pack school-uniform socks, pants and a pair of shoes for afterwards.
