Children should read at least three times a week. This can be school or home reading books. Please record in reading diaries so staff can monitor. Reading books will be changed once a week. Please ensure your child has their reading books each week on the days for each group of children.
Our topic is Superheroes (Autumn1)
Festival of Light & Stone Age (Autumn 2).
Through this term, our topic is Superheroes. Here, the children will explore a range of diverse “real-life superheroes” and the impact that these people have had on the wider community. They will be creating a piece of Pop Art inspired work, make a dance sequence to a piece music consisting of the basic elements (shape, form, space, time and energy) and build on existing sewing skills learnt in KS1.
During Autumn 2, the children will learn about an ancient civilisation; The Stone Age. They will be finding out how Stone Age people lived, what they ate, what they wore and how they developed tools. The children will be receiving a visit from a Stone Age person to enhance their knowledge and experience the life of a Stone Age person. Additionally, we will be performing our Festival of Light.
Throughout this term, the children will be offered these experiences in conjunction with our Abbey ethos:
Soft skills: Respecting everyone, showing tolerance towards other cultures, listening to others, problem solving and working together collaboratively as a team.
Life Skills: Sewing, survival skills and mapping skills.
Bucket List: Stone Age person visit.
Science
The focus for Autumn 1 will be learning about our ‘Amazing Bodies’. In this unit, the children will be exploring both the human and animal skeletons, muscles, and what contributes to a healthy diet and lifestyle.
Autumn 2 is our topic of ‘Rocks’. Here, the children will develop an understanding of the different types of rocks and soils. Scientific working will enable children to record scientific findings and draw upon conclusions.
A wide range of scientific language will be used.
Please use your Spelling Frame log in details to access the spelling list each week. Children can learn their weekly spellings by accessing the games and activities. Spellings will go live the week of the spellings being tested and children will complete a test at the end of the week every Friday.
Spellings will be tested in school every Friday.
Practise the spellings in sentences as this will help put them into context. This is also an opportunity to practice letter formation.
PE for Year 3
In Autumn 1, we will be focusing on Dance. The children will be learning a combination of different movements to create a ‘Superhero dance’.
In Autumn 2, we will be concentrating on gymnastic skills to improve basic movements including running, jumping, hopping, skipping as well as developing flexibility, strength, technique, control and balance.
PE lessons this term are on Monday for 3H (PM) ,Tuesday for 3G (AM) and Thursday 3R (PM) . Could you please ensure that children have appropriate kit in school, including a jumper and trainers for outdoor use as it starts to get colder. Please ensure that hair is tied back in a bobble and earrings are removed the night before. Classes will be learning a range of invasion games.
