Fab, Fun in the Forest!

We had a truly fabulous and phenomenal morning at Forest School today, filled with adventure, discovery, and creativity!

Mini Beast Hunt & Hand Lenses

Our day began with a little lesson on how to use hand lenses. The children were so enthusiastic, eager to become mini beast detectives! Armed with their magnifying glasses, they set off on a hunt and found a wonderful variety of creatures including millipedes, centipedes, caterpillar eggs, woodlice, slugs, worms, snails, beetles, and spider webs. We also had a magical moment watching two butterflies play chase and spotted two geese flying low overhead!

Choosing Time: Creativity & Exploration

When it was time for choosing, the children were full of ideas and excitement. Some gravitated towards painting, some were using leaves to create beautiful nature-inspired art. Others were drawn to the water play area, where they experimented with guttering and discovered different ways to squirt, pour, and move water around. Meanwhile, a creative group decided to build a dinosaur park and, with Mrs. K’s help, set about making a volcano. They gathered resources from the shed and created a recipe using vinegar and bicarbonate of soda to create a bubbly eruption. Throughout these activities, there was lots of lively conversation, teamwork, problem-solving, and even some phonics as the children made signs for their dinosaur park.

Elsewhere, children challenged themselves on the obstacle course and explored the endless possibilities of loose parts play. Some took on the important job of watering the saplings and plants, helping our little forest thrive. The slack-line and sandpit were popular spots for fun and adventure, while the hammock provided a peaceful place to relax and recharge.  We also started making some bunting for our tent using hammers, fabric, flower petals and pens.

Teamwork & Snack Time

Our tidy teams did a fantastic job working together to clean up. After washing our hands, we gathered in our fire circle to enjoy a well-earned snack and reflect on our adventures.

If your child comes home a little muddy or with paint splatters on their clothes, rest assured-it’s a sign of a day filled with learning, laughter, and exploration! We are so proud of how engaged, curious, and cooperative everyone was today.

Thank you for your continued support. We can’t wait for our next adventure in Forest School!
