Millipedes, Spiders and Hedgehogs!

Our Forest School session was full of excitement and discovery as we enjoyed one of our final mornings before the last session next week

The highlight? A surprise visit from a real hedgehog! The children were thrilled to watch the video we captured of our prickly visitor, sparking curiosity and smiles all around.

We read a delightful hedgehog story to set the scene, then went on a mini-beast hunt, searching for insects that hedgehogs love to eat. The children practiced using hand lenses to spot and identify different bugs, developing their observation skills in a fun, hands-on way.

Creativity blossomed as some children made Gelli-print cards using leaves and flowers, while others hammered nails to craft wooden hedgehogs. Another group got busy making hedgehog bird feeders from pine cones, seeds, and clay—perfect for helping wildlife in the garden.

Water play was a big hit, with spray bottles and guttering providing endless fun. Meanwhile, the mud kitchen was buzzing with potion-making and imaginative play. We ended the morning with lively chats, watering flowers, and sharing a well-deserved snack and drink together.

It’s been wonderful to see such cooperation and joy—we don't have many pictures this week as we were just having too much fun!
