Blue Group set out this morning for a day of Abseiling and Canoeing with Miss Hinton and Plas Leader Charlie. First off they collected helmets, harnesses and ropes and headed for 'The Rock'. Everyone had a great time pushing their barriers and stepping outside of their comfort zone. They worked as a team to encourage and support one another and they all over came their initial fears.
After lunch, Blue group took the minibus down the road to Llyn Gwynant, where they canoed across towards the legendary 'Elephant Rock'. Whilst on the lake they played fruit salad, paddled standing up and jumped up and down to nursery rhymes, all whilst trying not to fall in! Inevitably, the time would come for the children to get very, very wet and that was on arrival to Elephant Rock! The children could choose to jump off at various heights and as you can see they were super brave! A great first full day for Blue Group!
Yellow Group started their day with a great session of canoeing with Mr. Hayat and Plas Gwynant tutor Mel. The children worked brilliantly as a team to take off the canoes from the trailer and set them up ready for their trip to the iconic 'Elephant Rock.' All the children showed great skills at paddling, to ensure they could go in different directions. They achieved their aim of reaching the rock and then had the opportunity to get out of their canoes and jump from different heights to land in the lake which they absolutely loved. On the way back from 'Elephant Rock,' the children had great fun jumping up and down to different songs in their canoes with the aim to to keep their balance.
During the afternoon, the group carried out their abseiling activity. They learned how put on a harness and connect a rope to it. Once they were ready with all their equipment, they went ahead to climb up a rock and abseiled down. The children loved the activity and demonstrated fantastic teamwork to encourage each other. They certainly conquered some fears they had at the beginning! A brilliant day for Yellow Group!
Pictures of the day to follow once uploaded by centre staff.
Today saw Green Group (Mr Postin’s group) and Red Group (Mr Bates’ group) team up for an expedition to the top of Llyn Dinas. The initial climb pushed the children both physically and mentally, but each and every child showed resilience and perseverance to continue towards the summit. The breathtaking view from the top was well worth waiting for and it is something that will stay with the children for life. During our descent, the children again faced their fears, by delving deep in to disused mines and then went on to submerge themselves up to the waist in freezing cold water. Having a ‘growth mindset’ is one of the objectives for our course this week and it is safe to say that both groups definitely demonstrated this during today’s activities.
Photographs will be uploaded in due course, as soon as they are uploaded by the centre staff.

After arriving at the soggy, but picturesque Plas Gwynant, the children met their instructors and were given the task of unpacking their suitcases and making their beds. After exploring the grounds, equipping themselves with the adequate kit they need for the week ahead and enjoying some free-time in the games room, the children were treated to a delicious meal of burger, chips and peas; followed by the classic arctic role.
Feeling re-energised after their dinner, the children were taken on an adventurous night walk deeper in to Snowdonia National Park, giving the children a sense of life without the sounds of cars passing by and the lights of city life obscuring the star-lit sky.
The children are now tucked up in bed, hopefully getting enough sleep ahead of another busy day tomorrow.
Just a quick note to notify you that your children have arrived at Plas Gwynant safe and sound and are currently having their introductory briefing with the Plas staff. More information and photographs will be posted in due course, once we are unpacked and settled in.
Take care,
Abbey staff
