Hello Year 1!
We hope that you are all doing well! Not long now till we get to see all your lovely faces again, we can’t wait!
On Thursday this week it is world book day which is something that we would normally celebrate in school so we will be doing some activities this week to get you in the spirit wherever you are doing your remote learning. Normally we would mark the occasion by dressing as your favourite book Character, so if any of you are feeling particularly creative and want to dress up we would love to see your pictures on the padlets. Your teachers have also been working some fun that we have called ‘The Masked Reader’ more details are below, we hope you enjoy!
You are all doing so well and are all super stars ✨ ! Keep up the hard work!
Go team Year 1 !
The Masked Reader
On Thursday, it is World Book Day, so you will see lots of activities and links on here this week related to reading. As we can’t all be in school at the moment, we’re doing something a little different this year. All of the teachers have disguised themselves whilst reading a short story or an extract from a book! Do you think you will be able to unmask each of the readers?
Click on this link to find more information and watch all of the videos:
https://www.abbeyfederation.co.uk/world-book-day-2021/
Answers will be revealed on Friday, so you can take your time listening to the stories throughout the week.
Happy reading!
Friday 5th March
ANSWERS ARE UP!
Did you unmask all of the masked readers accurately? We hope you all had fun listening to the stories and working out who's who.
Go to the World Book Day special page to find out how many teachers you unmasked!

Today we will continue to look at the ‘ar’ sound, remember /ar/ is a tricky one due to dialect (this means your accent can affect the way you say things, most words are split into north and south dialects and we are in the middle so we can tend to have a bit of both 😊) Link for session ...https://abbey-federation.primarysite.media/media/100221-phonics
Maths
In Maths today, we are going to be recapping our subtraction skills. We will be partitioning the subtrahend (second number) and getting to 10 and then subtracting the second part. Although it is important to reach the correct answer, it also important to understand the method behind achieving the answer. So today, I want us to have a good practise of our subtraction skill using the tens frame and a part whole model. You can use any resources you have at home to help you. You can also keep going over the questions and practising the questions to make sure you have a good understanding of this method.

We are so proud of all of you for the amazing work you keep sending to us and also can you say a big THANK YOU to your parents for helping you to continue with your remote learning so successfully.

Linked to instructions, our computing lessons will help to reinforce the knowledge and skills that the children are covering in English, as well as addressing the topic of healthy eating. The lesson is in 2 parts so you will need to watch both of the videos below which can also be found in the Video Resource Centre.
