Welcome to Year 1!
2020-2021
Hello and welcome back to the second half of Autumn term. We have really enjoyed getting to know our new classes and they are impressing us with how quickly they have adapted to new school routines and work environments, during these unprecedented circumstances.
We aim to keep this website updated with important and useful information for the Parent and Carers of Year 1 children, so please keep popping back to check times and dates when they appear.

P.E
Each class will have a P.E. lesson each week. These will be on the following days:
1G – Friday
1DP – Thursday
1P – Tuesday
Please ensure that your child has a named P.E. kit in school (white t-shirt, blue shorts and black pumps). It is advisable that long hair is tied back and that earrings are not worn on your child’s P.E. days (children will have to wear tape over earrings if they have been left in on their P.E day).
Homework
Homework will be set shortly on Education City. Your child has received individual login details (inside cover of their reading diary) to allow them to access the homework. The activities set will be relevant to the work your child is currently learning and we hope that they will enjoy the process of completing their homework online.
Spellings
Spellings will be given out to the children every half term and will be checked on Friday. Children will be taught different spelling patterns and rules closely linked to our Phonics lessons at school. Additionally, you can help your child to learn the 'common exception words.' These are the words the children are expected to read and spell correctly. You will find links to the common exception and high frequency words, together with spelling lists, in the section below (useful links).
PhonicsPlay have extended their FREE resources that began during lockdown. The login details remain the same:
Username: march 20
Password: home
You have been send communication from school explaining the site's available resources in more detail.
Reading Books
Please hear your child read regularly throughout the week and comment in their reading diary. It is essential that books are sent into school on the following days to enable us to change each child's reading books every week.
1G- Tuesday
1DP - Wednesday
1P - Monday
We are following the safety guidelines of books being stored for 72 hours before redistribution. Please be mindful of safety and hygiene at home and treat school reading books respectfully.
Many thanks for your support and co-operation. Please do not hesitate to contact a member of the Year 1 Team should you have any further questions.
The Year 1 Team
Please ask your child which group they are in (badgers or squirrels) in order to access the relevant spellings to practise.
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
