A very warm welcome to all our Parents and Carers from all of the Year 2 Team!
Year 2 Team
2J - Mrs Johnson
2G- Mr Jones
2S - Miss Stocking
We are looking forward to having wonderful and fun filled, educational experiences with the children. We hope the children are looking forward to the Summer term and are excited to learn lots of new things. We are really excited to discover what this term has in store for us!
We are aware that there are lots of routines to remember, so a few of those which we feel are useful are detailed below:
Each class will have a P.E session each week:
2G – Monday
2S – Tuesday
2J – Thursday
Please ensure that your child has a named PE kit in school (white t-shirt, blue shorts and black pumps). We ask that hair is tied back and earrings are not worn on your child’s PE days.
Spellings will be given out to the children for the whole half term. They will be tested on Wednesdays. We will be sending home the children's spelling tests so you can continue to work on any mistakes with your child. You will find the spellings attached below.
Children will be taught different spelling patterns and rules within Phonics and English lessons. It would be great if you could help your children with these spellings throughout the year. You can download these words below in the High Frequency Words and Common Exception Words documents. These are the words the children are expected to read and spell correctly by the end of year 2. You will also find the end of Key Stage requirements in the National Curriculum.
Children will also be able to practice their spellings at home using Spelling Frame. They will have a login and password in their reading journal. There are lots of fun games to play, to make the task of leaning these spellings a little more fun. Please help your child login and enjoy the games online.
Children will receive E-learning for their homework. This will be on Education City and Purple Mash. The children can also use Times Table Rock Stars and Numbots at home too, along with Spelling Frame. There will be battles set on there for them to compete in.
We expect the children to practise their times tables (2,5 and 10), learn their spellings and read every night.
We will also be sending home the text the children will be learning in their English lesson for
them to familiarise themselves with before writing. They should also know some actions that we have been doing together during the week, to help remind them of the different sections. Please ask your child to perform the text for you.
Your child should have brought home their new reading books. We aim to listen to the children read at least once a week during Guided Reading. Please ensure that they have their reading books in school on the day they have Guided Reading and that you have commented in their reading diary so that their books can be changed. We would like children to bring their books in every day though, so that we can listen to readers should there be a spare moment in the day.
Your child will have Guided Reading on:
2G - Monday
2S - Thursday
2J - Wednesday
We will be moving on to Phase 6 Phonics in Year 2, but will be revising Phase 5 throughout Autumn term, in preparation for completing the Phonics Screening in the second part of the Autumn term.
Please do not hesitate to contact a member of the Year 2 Team should you have any further questions.
